Television and Film Production Technology

Mission Statement

To provide qualified students interested in the Television & Film industry with superior academic experiences and career opportunities within those disciplines while preparing them for post-secondary education and future employment.

The Television and Film Production Technology Program teaches students professionalism through hands-on training and real-life experiences. Students are prepared to function as members of a technical team by actually working in the same environment found in television, radio, and production facilities. Students also learn the art of interviewing and news-gathering techniques.

Educational activities include:

  • GNN, The Gator News Network, is a live, daily broadcast that informs students and faculty about activities, sporting events and school policies
  • Special projects, such as student produced dramas, comedies, and videos that include public service announcements for the American Lung Association, Schaefer Productions, and Teen Hotline
  • Videos submitted to state competitions including F.A.M.E., the Marco Island Film Festival, Universal Studios Video Competition, and Palm Beach County Film Festival
  • WPBG, an on-campus radio station that allows students to learn the ins and outs of being a DJ by simulating broadcast conditions.
  • Field Trips – Freshman and sophomore students take part in trips to Disney World and Universal Studios, not as visitors to theme parks, but as observers to working production facilities. Tours take the students behind the scenes of studios, editing suites, and production offices. Juniors and Seniors take trips to such places as New York City and go backstage on various television shows and production facilities.

With many movies and programs being produced right here in Palm Beach County, the opportunities in South Florida are exciting and numerous.
