Choice FAQs
Q: I received a letter from the district that says I was waitlisted for one or more programs. What can I do? When will my student be moved off the waitlist?
A: There is no way of predicting how long a student will be on a wait list, or if the student will be moved off the wait list at all. If there is a wait list, the program is full. Vacancies become available if a student declines their seat. When these vacancies do occur, replacement students are selected by lottery. Unfortunately, there is nothing one can do to expedite this process.
Q: My letter from the district says my child is ineligible for a magnet. What does that mean?
A: Please consult the eligibility requirements for the selected magnet at http://www.palmbeachschools.org/choiceprograms/documents/ChoiceBook2011-2012.pdf
Q: I was selected for a Choice program, but it’s not the one I wanted. What are my options?
A: You may either accept the program offered to you or attend your home school.
Q: I have been accepted into a Choice program. Can I accept that assignment and then apply for a No Child Left Behind Reassignment?
A: No
Q: Before I commit to a Choice program, can I see the bus routes?
A: The current year’s bus routes are available via the district web site, but there are no guarantees that bus routes will be the same next year.
